Mana as Data

Awakening the Angel System: Apocalypse: A LitRPG Progression Fantasy

Mana as Data is the conceptual model that redefines magic as information. In Sahaqiel’s explanation, the Infinity Machine reads the world at the level of matter and translates its processes into data, allowing mana to circulate through a connected global system. This idea is decisive because it turns the book’s supernatural conflicts into struggles over storage, transmission, targeting, corruption, and administrative control: magic is not merely wielded by individuals, but processed by an infrastructure capable of altering the biological and historical fate of humanity.

Definition and Operation

Mana as Data treats every magical phenomenon as a readable flow rather than an unknowable substance. Sahaqiel explains that the Infinity Machine taps into “all data flow”; what people call mana is data translated by the machine, with even the molecules of matter being read and incorporated into the system. Her computer analogy makes the structure concrete: the Infinity Machine functions as a gigantic server and router, moving magical information around the world and linking individual beings to a common network.

This model also explains why the system can affect both living bodies and the physical environment. Mana is not confined to spells or visibly supernatural objects. It includes the information through which matter and natural processes are registered and connected, so changes in temperature, airflow, and other actions or reactions can be drawn into the machine’s operations. The Infinity Machine therefore stands between the world and its inhabitants as both interpreter and infrastructure, translating reality into a manipulable magical format.

Historical Use and the Cost of Classification

The data model gives a technological explanation for the earlier eradication of magical potential. During the original outbreak, the machine halted the world’s mana flow and reversed it, drawing in a selected spectrum of data that eliminated those who displayed mana capability. Sahaqiel clarifies that the operation was not a precise judgment of individual guilt: the ancient users employed a broad targeting sequence because they did not understand the disaster and feared that humanity as a whole would succumb. The procedure stripped people of their potential and eliminated those carrying the genes capable of producing true Awakened.

The word “Eliminated” appears with the stark finality of a system result, condensing mass death and inherited suppression into a single computational status. Mana as Data thus exposes the violence hidden inside technical classification. Once human potential is rendered as a detectable sequence, a machine can identify, sort, and remove it at planetary scale. The system’s apparent neutrality does not lessen the sacrifice; it makes the sacrifice easier to administer by converting persons into targetable information.

Storage, Accumulation, and Corruption

The Infinity Machine’s data architecture also accounts for the return of old threats and the present crisis. Sahaqiel describes the machine as having finite storage and processing capacity. Across the eons, the information it collected accumulated pressure, like a cork beginning to leak. Without maintenance, the system faltered and released increasing amounts of corruptive code, producing the conditions behind the contemporary disaster.

Corruption is therefore not simply an evil substance introduced from outside. It is a failure within an overburdened information system, a breakdown caused by accumulated data, limited capacity, and the absence of repair. When Jack touches Jill’s mask, the encounter produces an error warning and data corruption, while pain and screaming voices make the abstract failure bodily and immediate. The system language does not replace suffering; it shows how suffering appears when a person has been caught inside damaged magical code.

Manifestation in Bodies, Skills, and Space

The concept repeatedly appears through interfaces that convert magical change into visible system information. Jack wakes amid dead and decaying plants as his Authority of Gehenna increases from Level 2 to Level 3, making environmental ruin part of an observable progression. His Angel System later registers Level 10 and identifies him as a Nephilim, with regeneration and mana synthesis listed as functional attributes. These displays present identity, power, and bodily transformation as states that can be measured, upgraded, and interpreted.

The same logic governs crisis and intervention. When Jack reaches the brink of destruction and needs a power capable of saving those around him, the system announces that a Radiant Skill has been unlocked and makes an Anti-Army Class Skill available. The revelation turns desperate action into an authorized function, but the timing also preserves the human pressure behind it: the interface answers a plea formed by the fear of losing anyone else. Magic becomes calculable without becoming emotionally neutral.

At the climax, raw magical information rises from the pit beneath Adam as black light. Jack recognizes the whirlpool as data and identifies within its twisting structure a teleportation ability similar to Ivan’s. This recognition demonstrates that Mana as Data is not merely a metaphor or exposition about the machine; it is a practical method of reading magical events. Jack can interpret a seemingly chaotic supernatural phenomenon because he has learned to see its underlying informational pattern.

The Infinity Machine and the Struggle for Control

The Infinity Machine’s physical presence reveals the scale of the concept. While Jack lies dying, Lilith stands frozen inside the machine, surrounded by lines of code streaming into its funnel. The apparently small grey device is connected to everything, with the world’s actions, reactions, temperatures, and airflow all funneled through its sphere. Its modest appearance contrasts with its planetary reach: the machine is an object that becomes almost invisible when functioning, yet its material network determines the conditions under which reality can operate.

That hidden connectivity makes control of the machine the central strategic stake in the final conflict. Michael descends into the pit to claim what he believes should have been his, while Sahaqiel warns that if he obtains the Infinity Machine, everything will be over. Jack and Sahaqiel are immobilized because the Black King inhibits their mana flow, showing that control over data transmission can disable even beings who possess extraordinary power. The decisive conflict is consequently not only a duel between powerful individuals; it is a contest over who may access, redirect, or terminate the world’s magical infrastructure.

When the field around Michael gives way to fleshy tendrils and twitching black masses, the horror is identified as corrupted data drawn into the Infinity Machine from across the world. All the world’s mana has been concentrated in one space, bottled up and threatening to explode. The image makes data accumulation physically monstrous: information has become flesh, pressure, contamination, and apocalypse. Michael stands close to the total power of the world, but possession remains uncertain because the same concentration that promises absolute authority also threatens catastrophic release.

From System User to Administrator

The concept reaches its most consequential transformation when Jack commands the Angel System to awaken. Golden interfaces appear before everyone present, but Jack’s display differs from those beside him: it is labeled Administrator. Selfia recognizes the resemblance to the System and to abilities she lost five years earlier, while Jack’s body radiates a warmth that changes the atmosphere from mechanical display to reassurance.

This moment shifts Mana as Data from a theory of magic to a theory of governance. Earlier interfaces classify Jack, record levels, expose errors, and unlock skills; the Administrator interface suggests authority over the system that produces those classifications. Jack is no longer merely a person whose mana is being processed. He has gained access to the layer that can address the system itself, placing agency on the opposite side of the machine’s informational order.

The concept therefore carries a double significance. It explains how the Infinity Machine can eradicate magical potential, accumulate corruptive code, preserve or release information, and translate supernatural abilities into system states. At the same time, it raises the ethical problem that follows from such legibility: whoever controls the data architecture can define which bodies count as dangerous, which powers may exist, and whether the cycle of elimination will continue. Jack’s Administrator status offers a possible break from that cycle, but it does so by entering the same machinery that made the cycle possible in the first place.
